Quote by Judy Garland

“Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of somebody else.” ~Judy Garland

Ever try copying someone else? I have and it’s frustrating because I am me and they are who they are. They are not me and I am not them. I might be jealous that he is seems so confident in front of large groups, or her bank account seems to have no end. Or, maybe I like my friend’s clothing or style of hair better than my own. I might ask where they bought a particular item of clothing. I’ve been known to search frantically for a similar shirt the same shade of blue as my friend’s shirt.

When I mimic another, it’s not real and feels like pretend. The end result is a poor imitation, a replica, something fake. I believe the famous Hollywood star, Judy Garland, is saying that it’s prudent and beneficial to work hard at being me and not spend a lot of time comparing myself to others. When we place our energy on comparisons, oftentimes the net result is discontent.

Instead, I would be wiser to count the blessings God gives me: life, health, a passion for writing, the ability to see good in people, and compassion for the underdog. God chose my characteristics with me and me only in mind. And God doesn’t make junk!
